I can keep watching these videos.

A Lip Sync Battle a day keeps the boring thoughts away.

I'm with child too

Painting for my friend's baby by me.
A lot of my friends have been having babies lately.
And I really didn't want to know how anything happens.

I have always believed that ignorance is bliss.

Unfortunately, my friends give me details that I really wish I didn't know.
I know you're done with it but do you really have to torture the rest of us with that information?

I can say that I really don't know what you're going through as a pregnant person.
But for some strange reason, whenever I'm having a conversation with someone who's let's say 'with child', I just start talking like I understand what they're going through.

I know you (with your hormones) want to slap me with a big pomfret but I'm just trying to understand what you're going through. I usually compare childbirth to the most painful experiences in my life (don't worry, I won't name them) and ask if it's anything close to that.

I once went shopping for dresses with a then pregnant friend.
I tried on an XS instead of my usual size which is S and boy oh boy, did I get a backache while trying to squeeze myself out of that dress.
And when I told my pregnant friend this, I got this look from her.

Cue: Pomfret slap.

And here's a recent conversation I had with a currently pregnant friend:
Friend: Nowadays I like wearing dresses. It's just more comfortable.
Me: Yea, I know what you mean. I too always wear dresses when I go out for dinner [holding my stomach and thinking of my food baby].
I can't have something holding my stomach when I'm eating. It's just so uncomfortable.

Cue: Pomfret slap.

While this was happening, another friend of mine started laughing and signaled me to shut up and stop making an ass of myself.

Well, to be fair, babies are babies, whether made up of human stuff or food.

Happy Birthday Aku

My sister Aku is not a big fan of cooking.
According to me, like everything else, this too isn't for everyone.

Cookbooks by Short Stack
But when I saw these mini cookbooks online which were so well designed with their little illustrations, I just had to buy them.
And Aku's birthday seemed like the perfect excuse to order them.
They're great because each one focuses on one ingredient.

Aku,
I know you love eggs and strawberries.
And I know like me you're not the biggest fan of tomato, but after watching this video I thought you may want to cut tomatoes just for kicks.
Like a ninja.

So enjoy the books.
I'm hoping you'll love it.
And use it.
And not spill sauce on it.
And maybe some day make a cookbook of your own.

Here's a video for you. Because I know how much you loved Tina Turner.

Vote

This year, the elections have been quite a hot button topic of conversation.
And let me tell you - discussing it is just not a good idea.

My sister always told me - religion, politics and sex are topics you just shouldn't discuss.

Well, in an ideal world, we could all just agree to disagree.
But since that's not the way the world is, everyone pretty much just disagrees.

I know this year my friends and I are not voting for the same political party.
I think they're crazy and they probably think I am.

My decision is based on facts.
And more facts.

But to each his own.

Today is the day.
So don't sleep in because it's a holiday.
Get out and vote.

To conclude : Whoever wins this election, may the outcome be good.
To seriously conclude : Whoever I'm voting for - May the odds be ever in your favour.

Typographic video by me.

Caution: Cuteness Overload

I am not one of those women who can't stop gushing about the cuteness of a baby.
But seeing this turned me into one of them.

If you're ever having a really crappy day and desperately need to turn that frown into a smile, this is what you need to look at.

Photographer Grace Chon photographed her cute as a cotton ball baby, Jasper and her dog Zoey in many coordinated costumes giving us an amazing photo series that will make you want to reach into your computer and give them all a nice big hug.

And if you think there's nothing cuter than Asian babies, check out former Masterchef winner Adam Liaw's instagram feed. He had dressed his baby up as Pharell, Matt Preston, Salvador Dali and even compared him to a pineapple.
Which is why it's almost upsetting when this chef posts photos of food.

Same same. But different.

by Marion Fayolle

A friend of mine sent me this article with amazingly funny drawings by Marion Fayolle.
What's great about it is how provocative and absurd it is at the same time.
The surreal but easily understandable illustrations just bring a smile to your face.

by Horyon Lee

And then while browsing I came across this article with oil paintings by Horyon Lee.
The motion shown in these paintings flirt a little with your mind.
Who knew paintings could be so seductive and beautiful?

Both of these pieces of art are so suggestive.
Same same. But different.

Magic

One of my all-time favourite bands, Coldplay just released their new single, Magic.

And if you were to ask me
After all that we've been through
Still believe in magic
Oh yes I do
Oh yes I do
Yes I do
Oh yes I do
Of course I do

Tangent: Did you notice the woman in the video is Sayuri from Memoirs of a Geisha.

Milktape

Remember when people made mixtapes?

When I was a child, my cousin would make mixtapes for me.
And he wouldn't bother to write the names of the songs on the back.
So my sister and I would play every song and guess the titles.
And how did we do that?
By listening to a song over and over again and writing whatever words we heard the most number of times.
And you'd be surprised - more than half our mixtape had the right song titles.
How brilliant were we?

After a point we graduated to making mixes on CDs.
I have a collection of CDs made by me and gifted by my exs.
And they were the best.

You could tell so much about a person from the kind of mix they made.

And now with everything on your iPod or even just a USB, mixtapes and even CDs have become a thing of the past.
Is it time to put it in the Vintage category already?

Kids these days don't know what a tape is.
And I love not explaining it to them and just keeping them guessing.
I'm a mean jellybean sometimes.

But how cool is this?

It's called Milktape.

It's Mac and PC compatible
128 MB (holds 15 songs average) because everything should be handpicked
You can drag and drop from any folder or iTunes
Personalize each tape. Write on the blank cover and stickers
