Say hello to Tangerine Arts Studio

There's one more reason to love Bandra.
Tangerine Arts Studio, has opened it's doors and is calling everyone over.

Tangerine is a studio space that holds classes ranging from Yoga, Zumba, Muay Thai, Belly dance, Contemporary and Bollywood dance daily from Monday to Saturday.
But it doesn't end just there.
Every weekend one can also attend different fun workshops like different forms of dance and even hula hooping.

Founder Tanvi Mehra, is not only my yoga teacher but also a very dear friend.

From the very first time I entered this studio I fell in love with it.
It is a beautiful space with a warm wood floor and big windows on one side that draw all the sunlight in. And all around the studio one can see frames and other decorative elements put together by Rabanne Jamsandekar. Two of the walls are blanketed with floor to ceiling mirrors (perfect for dance rehearsals) and Tanvi was kind enough to give me the third wall to decorate with chalk art.

Creating the chalk art while my patient sister took photos for my stop motion video.

The studio just has such good energy. It draws you in.

Last weekend was the official launch of Tangerine Arts Studio at what was called the Big Juicy Weekend.
It began on Friday with a wonderful party hosted by Tanvi at the studio followed by 2 days of free classes in yoga, belly dance, contemporary, tap, salsa, hula hoop and much much more.

At the launch of Tangerine Arts Studio
The studio conducts classes daily from 7.30 am to 8.30 pm.
For anyone who wants to get fit or learn something new while having a good time, this is the place to go.

Yoga Station Retreat

A couple of months ago I started learning Ashtanga Yoga at Yoga Station from my friend, Tanvi Mehra who not only happens to be an amazing yoga teacher and dancer but also someone with such a big heart. When you meet her, you just want to give her a hug.

Her classes are sometimes hard but at the same time so relaxing.
I go for her evening class and I get some amazing sleep after it.

Over the last weekend I went for a Yoga retreat with my entire class to Tanvi's beautiful house in Badlapur.
The weather was lovely. It was raining and we were surrounded by every shade of green that exists.

We went for a walk, through the stream to the hills.
And we had cows for company.
The beauty was surreal.

Once we got to the hill, it started raining.
But that didn't stop us.
We did yoga in the rain and it was amazing.

And my sister did a cartwheel.

We came back to a huge spread that was put together by all the students.
Everyone brought with them healthy versions of tasty food.
And obviously there was cake too.

A day so well spent!

Update: Yoga Station classes are now at Tangerine Arts Studio in Bandra.

Love, light and a banana smoothie

Yesterday I went to the Yoga House - my new favourite place in Bombay.
I haven't done any yoga there yet but the food is great.
The menu is full of affirmations so I had I am toning along with my banana smoothie.
And when I asked them about how the sin-free chocolate mousse is sin-free, they casually told me it's just a fancy name given to regular chocolate mousse. I found their honesty quite funny.
Or maybe once you eat it, it just washes away your sins.
That sounds possible right?

I don't know why but you just come out of there feeling like the world is a better place.
Does that make any sense?

And after having got myself a belly full of all that good stuff, I attended my very first Kirtan.
The Yoga House was having one just when I was enjoying my bowful of yogurt + granola + fruits and I decided to check it out.
I'm not a very good singer so my enthusiasm and presence lasted for only about 10 minutes.
It sort of reminded me of this.

I feel totally bubble wrapped in goodness.

Love and Light!

Yes I can

I plan on rejoining Yoga this month.
I have bunked class for a few months now and the closest I get to doing yoga is stretching like a cat when I wake up.
I love Yoga but I'm just so lazy and 1.5 hours makes me restless.
I can't do anything that lasts more than 60 minutes. Not even a massage.

What I feel during Yoga can't be explained any better than this.

But now it's time for a new beginning.
I will get myself to not be lazy and go for Yoga.
Yes I can. Yes I can. Yes I can.

Who am I kidding?
It's April 1st today.

When love & Love collide

I was a fussy eater and I still am sometimes (can't eat green things).
But I do enjoy everything else. It's like a celebration in my mouth.
When it's health food - I Eat to Live.
When its dessert / fried - I Live to Eat.

80% of my meals are not salad-like and so I make up for it by doing Yoga 3 times a week.

So when I found this, I was obviously very amused.

by Baked Ideas.
Two of my loves = food ♥ yoga.

I hope to make these someday. I wish I could cook. And well too.
I don't think making maggi and papad really allow me to call myself a chef. And after my papad episode, I quit eating it forever (for now).

I've tried helping my mother make rotis since I was a child but for some reason my hands itch when I try rolling the dough. No, it's not an excuse.

Also, I'm very scared of fire. And that's not even a lie. Ask my friend Shivani. She lit the Bunsen burner for me in Chemistry class for two whole years in school.

What can I say? Life is hard.

So,
Dear Yoga cookie people,
It's going to take a while for you to be born out of my kitchen.
Sorry.

There's always hope.
